Depression and Anxiety

Depression shows up as diminished interest or pleasure in all or most activities most days and moods of sadness, emptiness hopelessness may be present. Insomnia, or hypersomnia and fatigue and loss of energy, feelings of worthlessness, guilt feelings, diminished ability to think or concentrate and recurrent thoughts of death may be symptoms. In children and adolescents depression may present as an irritable mood that persists.

Anxiety may be apparent with fears of social situations, excessive worry about events or work, restlessness, fatigue, difficulty concentrating, muscle tension, and sleep disturbances.

Treatment of depression and anxiety may reduce the symptoms and evidence shows medication with psychotherapy have a greater effect than either alone. Treatment available includes EMDR, Hypnosis, Art Therapy and Cognitive Processing Therapy.
